Christmas Shaker Window Card

I’ve had the idea for this card in my head for a long time and I am so glad I finally got it done. It came out exactly how I was hoping! (Mom, if you are reading this, look away! This is YOUR card!)

The idea came to me when I was browsing Simon Says Stamp looking for some Christmas supplies so I could make a purchase and snatch up my Free Birthday Stamp Set. That was back in August and I finally got around to making it. Anyways, I ran across this Riley and Co. stamp…

and I knew I had to have it, but I needed a perfect co-stamp for it to work great for my purposes. So, I searched some more and I found this Penny Black Stamp…

Once I found that stamp an even better idea came in my head and knew I would need to buy these…

glass seed beads so I could make a shaker card! Not just any shaker card, but a shaker window card. I wanted you to only see her sweet little face making her case to Santa about her gift-worthiness. Then you open the card to see the rest of the stamped image and I would stamp the rest of the sentiment on the inside.

So, here’s the end product:

I’m super happy with how this card came out! It took me about an hour and a half to complete it. Other products I used to complete the card were:

• Lawn Fawn Let’s Bokeh in the Snow Paper 

• Tim Holtz Distress Markers 

•Blue Sequins from the $1 store ( Great place to stock up on shaker card supplies!)

• Holiday Flourishes Stamp Set by The Ton

• Clear Acetate – I use some transparency film I purchased from e-bay

• Loads and Loads of Foam Tape – which I also buy from the $1 store. It’s super thin though, so I have to do 3 layers.

Merry & Bright Stencil Card

I thought it would be fun to make a card only using my new Christmas stencils! I am pretty happy with how it came out !

I started off with the Merry & Bright Stencil and mixed some Ranger glitter with some Liquitex Gloss Gel. I originally did this so there wouldn’t be glitter everywhere and I could have some cool dimensional glitter. In the end I poured more glitter over the top since it looked like it was lacking in some areas. So, now glitter comes off but I think it looks better. I may spray some kind of sealant over it.

Once that was dry, I grabbed my sponge daubers and the Tangled Lights Stencil.  The sponge daubers make it so easy to be precise and I didn’t even have to mask when I alternated distress ink colors for the light bulbs. I used Seedless Preserves, Salty Ocean, and Barn Door for the Lights. Forest Moss was used for the wire. I finished it off by adding some Glossy Accents to all of the light bulbs to make them gleam.

I like how this card came out. It was so simple and can you believe there was absolutely NO STAMPING!

Contemporary Christmas Tree Card

This is one of those cards that came out completely different than the way I pictured it in my head. Luckily, it came out looking different in a good way!

I started off by sprinkling some Color Burst in Pthalo Green and Alizarin Crimson on some thick watercolor paper. I spritz that with water and dry it and then repeat. Doing this step two times gives you completely different results than doing just one layer. (Just one more reason Color Bursts are so awesome! )

After my background was done, I buffed some Black Soot Distress Ink through my Angled Trees Stencil using a sponge dauber. This is where I messed up a little. I forgot to heat set the distress ink and it stayed wet and caught some of my sticky embossing powder. Oops!

The Angled Trees Stencil is a Two Step Stencil that you can stack to get extra effects. I stacked the dotted angled tree on top and then patted my Versamark Ink Pad all over it. (If you do this, please be aware that some of the distress ink will transfer to your Versamark ink pad.) You can also use an Emboss It Dabber, which I ended up doing for the star. Then sprinkle some Sticky Embossing Powder by Ranger all over. Now you can heat that until it gets shiny and quickly apply some Fab Foil or Ranger’s Foil Sheets. Make sure to burnish it well and wait for the Sticky Embossing Powder to cool. Then just rip the sheet off. If you are using Fab Foil, it will result in a distressed look like you see on my card. It’s not exactly what I had in mind, but I think it looks cool!

I just adhered my card front to a black card base and called it done. I am going to white emboss my sentiment on the inside of the card. I thought there was enough on the outside of the card that I didn’t want to make it look too busy.

Here’s what the entire card looks like. The foil looks best from an angle. When you look at it head on, it can appear to be black.

Stamp of Approval Happy Holidays Card with Color Bursts

Do you ever come up with a card design that you are just so happy with that you have to make it again? That’s a rare occasion for me, but I was so happy with this card design that I had to make it again. I will be adding a video of making this card when I have time to edit it.

The dies and stamps I used to make this card were included in the Holiday Magic Stamp of Approval box by Catherine Pooler. These are curated boxes that are released every 3 months. They are $97.00 and contain products from smaller companies such as CAS-ual Fridays, Winne & Walter, and Neat & Tangled. The boxes only have stamps and dies, which I LOVE. I considered some of the other subscription boxes, but didn’t like some of the filler products. I love supporting small companies and exploring new products. I paid for this box with my own money, but like I said, I like supporting small businesses and I wanted to spread the word!

Onto the card!

I used the snowflake stamps from the CAS-ual Fridays sets that were included in the box. Placing them randomly and then inking with Versamark and embossing with embossing powder will allow you to create a resist when working with the Ken Oliver Color Bursts. I finally caved in and bought 3 Color Bursts and I’m in love with these! In fact, we’ll be carrying them in the store soon! I used Ultramarine Blue and Pthalo Green for the first card.  I cut out the “happy holidays” using a die by Neat & Tangled which you can purchase here. I added a die cut snowflake to tie in the shimmery background paper. Then glue all of that down to some vellum and secured it with some green brads to accent the green in the background.

Below is the card my Mom made:
I made up this card design while I was crafting with my Mom and she played along with me. She used her own stamps and a paper punch along with the Color Bursts and the Happy Holidays Die. So, if you want to make this card and didn’t get the Stamp of Approval box, you certainly could! I love how her card came out and it’s always fun to make her move out of her normal style of card making and try new techniques she probably wouldn’t have on her own. It makes me laugh when she gets inky because she’s used to pretty clean crafting LOL.

Below you will see my second rendition of this card: This time I decided to use the Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue Color Bursts. I also used black brads to match the color of the sentiment. I threw on a couple sequins and used Glossy Accents all over the happy holidays die cut. That really made it pop! Since I added the Glossy Accents after I already adhered the die cut, it actually started to warp the vellum and I had to tuck a few glue dots in strategic places to get it to stay down a little better. I decided to use glitter cardstock this time instead of shimmer cardstock too. 

Here they are side by side. I LOVE how these came out and I’m proud of my design, which happens rarely!

A Few More Christmas Cards

I was hoping to have more time to write blog posts about these cards, but the time just flies! So, I am posting them to share with you and because I used my blog as a digital scrapbook of my creations that I will never see again!

I won’t get too much into the details, but here’s a few facts:

•The “HoHoHo” is one of my wood laser cuts that has been painted using Luster Mica Powders!

• The blue “Merry Christmas” is one of my acrylic laser cuts that was colored using alcohol inks.

• I used Lawn Fawn’s Snow Day paper and DCW Heirloom Christmas (one of my all time Favorite Christmas Stacks!)

• The Gold stars that I shot a close up of were not part of the paper. I used one of my trailing stars stencils and mixed Luster Mica Powder with gel medium.

Here’s a little tip: ALWAYS Check the $1.00 stamps at Michael’s and Wal-Mart. I have found some major gems in there that would normally cost $4-5 otherwise.

Jingle All the Way!

As we get closer to Christmas I start frantically making Christmas cards while trying to design new laser cuts for Valentine’s Day. It puts me in a cross of thinking about reds and greens , as well as love and hearts. I think this card shows my mood pretty well!

The paper is from Lawn Fawn’s Snow Day collection. See those adorable hearts on the music sheets? So Cute! The tag is a Lawn Fawn stamp, but the sentiment is one that I got in the dollar bin from Michael’s a few years ago. I used my tiny attacher to adhere the tag.The light bulbs you see here are the some of my wood laser cuts that have been colored with Luster Mica Powders. The Green one is actually Luster Mica Spray Mist in Turtle Town and the red one is Maui Magma mixed with a little 24 Karat Gold. I am working on getting the powders released as soon as possible. They do have some nice shimmer to them that didn’t really come through in the camera. The embossed the tops of the lightbulbs with green embossing powder and then threaded them with floral wire and added a little bell. I had to make sure it would have enough room to jingle which just took a little bit of finagling. This was actually a pretty simple card. I hope you enjoyed seeing it. Thanks for stopping by!
