SSS July 2016 Card Kit Card #1

Today I’m sharing the first of 3 birthday cards that I have already made using this card kit. It tried to stick to mostly what was included in the kit and use only a little bit of my supplies I already had on hand.

Here’s the card: 20160625_171640

This was the quickest of all of the cards I made and I just made it up as I went along. I started with one of the beautiful patterned papers from the kit and ink blending the border and the flowers using a Judikins Color Duster. I used various yellow inks including the one hybrid ink that was in the kit along with some distress ink.

The sentiments that came in the Handwritten Floral Greetings Stamp Set were all nice but I specifically needed Birthday Cards so I used my stamp from the Lawn Fawn Scripty Sayings stamp set. I embossed that on some black cardstock using versamark and white embossing powder. Don’t forget to run an anti static tool over the paper before embossing!

I layered that on top of some vellum and taped it down to the card front. I added some glass domes to the top left corner to finish it off. Glass domes are also sold by Pretty Pink Posh under the name Clear Droplets. Mine are just a little larger than theirs. I mounted the card front onto Simon Says Stamp Slate Cardstock that I turned into a card base by cutting it at 5.5″ and scoring it at 4.25″. If you haven’t used Simon Says Stamp Cardsstock before, I definitely recommend you give it a try. I was super happy with how heavy weight it was and it made me realize I’ve been making some very “light” card bases. It made it feel much nicer.

That’s it for today! I will be back really soon with another birthday card I made using this month’s Simon Says Stamp Card Kit. Thank you for stopping by!

Crazy About You Card – Foiling & Vellum

This card went in a completely different direction than I had sketched out. Originally it was going to have a foiled frame and some 3-D flowers. The frame ended up being too big and then I ended up making it a somewhat masculine card so I decided to not use the purple 3-D flowers I made.

I also added this little heart on the inside using an old Sizzix die to die cut some Toner Paper. The arrow was from the pieces that came in the Heidi Swapp Minc Mini Set. I didn’t have my heat on the machine turned up enough so I was left with some black spots.

Thankful Avery Elle & Authentique Card

This card was quick, easy and fun to make! I pulled out some pieces I had previously cut on my Silhouette Cameo 2 and this card was born.

thankful

The Authentique Papers are from Classique: Pretty

The Avery Elle Stamp Set is called Handwritten Notes. I love this stamp set because it has the tiny arrows with words to add as if you were writing it and wanted to add something extra. All of the sentiments are long and horizontal but you can stack them like I did by just inking up the area you want to stamp.

This is what the stamp set looks like:

I used Versamark embossing ink and some brassy gold embossing powder to make the sentiment really pop.

As always, thank you for stopping by!

Fairy Kisses Birthday Card w/ Avery Elle Stamps

This card took me a while to do but it was a lot of fun! Avery Elle has a new stamp set out called Pixie Dust and it’s just adorable!

Here’s the card:

20160107_215540

She’s just so cute! This card did take a while and it’s PACKED with techniques. In order to not make this blog post monumentally long, I am going to to a quick run down of what was done.

  1. Stamp the fairy girl with her wand on 140lb watercolor paper using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  Let it dry.
  2. Cover the fairy girl with liquid frisket to mask her off from the background spraying. Let it dry.
  3. Mix Luster Mica Powder in Hawaiian Orchid and Deep Sea Dive , or Blue Ice, in a Fine Mist Spray bottle. Spray the background keeping some of each color more concentrated in the top or bottom. Dry with heat tool.
  4. Remove Liquid Frisket with included remover and color fairy girl using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and Water Brush .
  5. Stamp stars from the Pixie Dust Stamp set on the top half of the card using Versamark Ink and cover with Embossing Powder Sticky. Heat until it changes clear then cover with glitter.
  6. Spell out “Fairy Kisses” in Silhouette Studio using Blessed Day Font from http://www.urbanfonts.com . Weld the letters together and cut it out using your Silhouette Cameo 2 .
  7. Stamp the sentiment on a scrap piece of paper that you have inked with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink. Also ink up the Fairy Kisses sentiment with this ink.
  8. Run “Fairy Kisses” through a Xyron Creative Station with sticker adhesive installed to turn this intricate die cut into a easy to place sticker.
  9.  Adhere other sentiment using a tape runner or liquid glue.
  10. Revel in the beauty of your card! You’re done!

Here’s a close up of the fairy girl: 20160107_215608Thank you so much for stopping by!

Turn Your Stamps into Die Cuts

As you know from my last blog post, I recently got a Silhouette Cameo 2 Electronic Die Cutting Machine. When I finally decided to purchase this machine after drooling over it for years, I told myself if I am going to dish out hundreds of dollars for another electronic die cutting machine I BETTER USE IT A LOT. Yes, I yelled it at myself in my head. I deserved the yelling though. Considering I spent $350.00 on the Sizzix Eclips when it first came out and I have a SLICE machine. I actually occasionally use the SLICE machine still just because it’s so small and convenient. Sizzix obviously realized they made a huge mistake with the Eclips machine because the cartridges that they used to sell for $40-60 each are now $5.00-6.00 on their website. I’d say that’s admitting you messed up. I didn’t purchase any cartridges and the only reason I bought the Eclips was because I knew I would also purchase the ECAL software (for $50.00 more) and make my own designs. Sizzix actually has an Eclips 2 now that’s specifically designed to be used only with a computer.  I suppose I could have just kept using my Eclips but I just did not like the software at all! So, after years of contemplation, I bought the Silhouette Cameo 2 and got a great bundle with a ton of extra stuff for only $250.00 and Silhouette doesn’t charge you for software (unless you want the designer edition). Now there’s a company that knows what they’re doing!

So, here’s a fair warning that a lot of my blog posts will likely include the use of the Silhouette Cameo 2 machine. However, I am sure a lot of what I am using it for could be achieved in other ways. Such as fussy cutting or using the dies that manufacturers make that you can run through a manual die cutting machine such as the Big Shot (which I still plan on using).

On to the real reason we are here!

I was playing around with the Silhouette Cameo 2 and thought it would be sooooo cool if I could turn some of my stamps into die cuts!

It was easier than I expected and I am so happy with the results.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Pick a stamp and stamp it in black on white cardstock. (I used Tim Holtz Flower Garden Stamp Set)
  2. Take a picture of the stamped images after mounting them on your PixScan Mat.
  3. Import the Pixscan image and trace it. Don’t just trace the outside edge like you normally would. Trace the entire image.
  4. Cut out the images and assemble on a card.

It’s as easy as that! I also cut out the outer edge so I had something to stack the inside of the flower on. I love how well this worked and it’s an awesome way to stretch your stamps.
    20160103_194259
Isn’t that just amazing!? If you have a Silhouette Cameo, I HIGHLY recommend getting a PixScan mat if you don’t already have one. It will greatly increase your creative abilities.

All of the papers used on this card are Authentique and the stamped sentiment is by Avery Elle.

That’s it for today. Thanks for stopping by!
